Sacramento PSL Opposes RTO
The Sacramento-Davis Branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (Sac-Davis PSL) emphatically opposes Governor Newsom’s return-to-office mandate because it hurts workers and enriches the ruling class.
By his own admission, Newsom said that this was about stimulating downtown businesses. State workers should not be forced into a situation that encourages them to patronize businesses in a certain area at the expense of another. But the real issue at hand is that this is a boon for commercial real estate interests, as evidenced by a CalMatters article published yesterday that provided more proof of Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis’ personal financial interests in downtown real estate. This is also part of a broader move to the right by Democrats in an attempt to embrace Trumpian pseudo-populism, hence the signs at the rally about how the two parties are united in their agenda to push public sector workers out. Finally, from purely a policymaking standpoint, state workers have been highly successful working remotely for the past five years. This mandate harms not just state workers and the working class in general, but also the environment, and is ultimately counterproductive to the State’s own best interests in the long term as an employer.
We urge all workers to realize that when state workers lose, so does the entire working class.
In solidarity,
Party for Socialism and Liberation Sacramento-Davis Branch
